“Hot Topics” and other presentations.

 ·        Think what you want to say

·        Think how you are going to present it

·        Think how other people do it well, and adapt their good points to suit you.

·        Be enthusiastic, or how can others be?

The delivery

·        Unless you have great presence, it is better to stand.

·        LOOK UP!

·        Do not start by apologizing!

·        People can read your slides; it is muddling to repeat them.

·        Keep the contents of your slides to a minimum

·        If you want comment during your presentation, pause and give time for people to formulate a question.

 The content

Tell the audience what you are going to say
    Say it

For “Hot Topics”, we are looking for giving each other competence in dealing with a primary care problem. A good model is the “Ten Minute Consultation” in the BMJ. Assume we know the basics – or recap very rapidly – and then give pertinent facts and clues to help

·        identify

·        confirm,

·        explain

·        and cover any common pitfalls

in about five slides.
